IBD Adventures is a program of the Intestinal Disease Education and Awareness Society (IDEAS) taking people from all walks of life on incredible journeys to amazing places.

IBD Adventures is a program of the Intestinal Disease Education and Awareness Society (IDEAS) taking people from all walks of life on incredible journeys to amazing places. The program is open to all (some age restrictions apply) and we welcome people from all over the world to join us as we climb to new heights to change attitudes with altitude.

The program is still young but has had amazing success in its two short years. So far, we’ve taken seven brave individuals to the top of the highest free standing mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa, September 2009, and another seven courageous accompanied Rob to Mount Everest base camp prior to his successful summit attempt in April 2010. During these two IBD Adventures, all participants reached their personal summit goals and in the process they’ve helped to raise over $50,000 to support research to find a cure for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and help children and youth suffering from IBD attend camps where they can meet other individuals dealing with similar issues.

The next IBD Adventure is the world famous West Coast Trail on the rugged coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Trekkers will hike over 75 kilometers of rugged coastal terrain in challenging conditions carrying huge loads to sustain themselves over the seven day IBD Adventure. This trip is sold-out, but don’t worry, if the thought of trekking the West Coast Trail to support IBD patients in Canada has you excited, we plan to make this adventure an annual event. Please contact info @ weneedideas.com to find out how you can participate in 2011.

While the West Coast Trail trek will be an annual event, it won’t be the only IBD Adventure offered. We plan to return to Kilimanjaro in the near future, but not before we travel to other amazing destinations to challenge attitudes with altitude, including:

  • Mount Whitney, California, USA
  • Three Peaks Challenge, United Kingdom
  • The Great Wall, China
  • , Peru

We welcome your suggestions for future IBD Adventures as well. We will have information available here soon about the next international high altitude destination.

These treks are fully supported by professional guiding companies. Participants’ safety is our primary concern. Trekkers must physically train to meet the challenges they’ll face on these IBD Adventures, but we’ll take care of all the travel arrangements and trekking logistics, so once you arrive to begin your journey, you can focus on seeing the sights, exploring the regions and getting to know your IBD Adventures teammates as you trek together to end the stigma associated with intestinal diseases and raise money to support important IDEAS programs.
